Misconceptions about awakening or spiritual realization

Here are a few misconceptions about awakening and spiritual realization that I have encountered while sharing with people.

1. Just another spiritual experience.

2. Something one can do or accomplish.

3. The attainment or possession of an ego-self.

4. A self-improvement project.

5. Defined by paranormal abilities, visions or powers.

6. A mental illness :-)

7. That one will not be able to function in the world.

8. One will know everything.

My feelings to share on this are,

Spiritual experiences, or peak experiences, LEAD to a full embodied awakened life. The encounter or the initial glimpse of the Ultimate reality is wonderful. But that experience then needs to then be lived, and embodied, moment to moment. This (in my opinion) is where the heart of awakening is. And it can be tricky, not because realizing what you are is hard, but because the habits of believing in what we are NOT can become very engrained, and then reinforced, over the years.

Hi Christine ~

This is it. Papaji used to say that the glimpse of the initial awakening is like your head is in the tiger's mouth! "She" will never let go! :-) This is a freefall of awe and wonder into an unfathomable true Self and it will all happen by itself. Since it is infinite, no one lands anywhere ... no arrival! :-)

It is perfect to call it the Heart of awakening, since in the end ... the Heart and its Heart-power ... or Now and its Power of Now :-) is all that remains.

All manifestation is the power of Self. "My" power is totally dependent on "me," yet it is of course inseparable.

First there is this "journey inward" ... deeply inward ... and we realize who we really are. I put that in quotes since you are already who you really are. It still seems like a journey for most. More and more layers of the intellect dissolve, ever more subtle layers. Inward is also in quotes, since we discover that "inside" and "outside" are false and only another mental construct and the perception is due only to the body.

Then, we have a full integration and instead of "me" living ... Life is living ... and of course the body that is named Christine is virtually living awake ... as the Living Truth.

An awakening or Spiritual Experience.......................

Well, I firmly believe this is an individual and private experience. Why? Because it is based on LOVE, and Divine reciprocation. Love respects the experience of all. Why? Because one man's food, is another man's poisen. Unity in Diversity is a universal law, because love cannot be FORCED. Spiritual Awakening cannot be artificial, it cannot be forced and it cannot be experienced until one desires it, and is ready for it. Because we are all individual, and unique, we will all have a different realization, or experience. But what we will all have in common, is the reciprocation of love, satisfaction, peace, and serenity that comes to us. The sun shines on the heads of all, regardless whether one is Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, New Age or Atheist, whether one is black, red, or white skinned, whether one is a man , woman, child. Everyone feels the warmth and glow from the sun, and it is a personal experience.

So let's wish all well, and be happy for one another.................Cooperation goes hand in hand with love..........p.dasi

Hello Dear P.dasi ~

Yes, it is just as you say. Enlightenment is beyond all experience and therefore the mind and its time and space. So a high spiritual experience is not its conscious and permanent realization, yet a glimpse is a profound and magnetic pointer!

Just as you say, all the beautiful pathways are equally suited and even this "ordinary" moment is constantly pointing to the Heart of all being or as you say "the sun shines on the heads of all."

There infinite ways to climb a mountain and not one is better than any other. Everywhere we find ourselves is perfection. Yet one fine day, we finally find ourselves at the summit of the mountain. Here all pathways meet. We are then left with the most essential question, who is "I?" Who am I? It is an inevitable question for every human being no matter which way we have climbed.

At the summit, we stop climbing and rest. Here is were in the inner exploration begins that is completely passive yet totally alert. Beyond the field of experience. And just as you say, we meet a wise love that is universal, a profound divinity, a perfect peace that is steadfast and a universal intelligence that is divine wisdom.

That sun is already radiantly shining within ALL. I will keep pointing for the remainder of this body's lifetime. Such radical good news! Yet, neither special, nor unique. All we need to know is where to look.

Finally, the genuine desire and longing for the divine will naturally arise and must be present above all else. The first step is simply hearing the news. The next step is up to anyone who finds themselves curious.

Then we experience the living aspect of this Truth within experience. LOVE recognizing itself as WISE LOVE everywhere and virtually all of its diversified expressions. Love speaks Love unto itself. A beautiful song and a beautiful symphony!
