Two of the ancient civilization, Indian and Chinese have their medical knowledge deeply entwined with the breathing therapy; The Indian had the practice of Yoga and the Chinese had Tai Chi.
The two healing modalities have a lot in common; both involve slow movement of the body, meditation, and deep breathing technique. Scientifically, the human cells that formed the lining of the lungs have unique feature compared to other parts of the body. In a 2005 review and analysis of several studies, Richard Brown, MD and Patricia Gerbarg, MD reported that yogic deep-breathing techniques were extremely effective in handling depression, anxiety, and stress-related disorders.
Whenever you are stressed, your body tends to burn glycogen, not fat, and through triggering the relaxation response, deep breathing encourages your body to burn fat instead.
