The Body Soul & Spirit Expo

,...........There are ordinary words, that make us feel different emotions, on this earthly plane of thought. Then there are Mantra Words of Power, that are surcharged with cosmic energy, that have been used for thousands of years in India by people seeking peace, happiness, enlightenment, money, or health. It seems that sound being a powerful yet subtle energy, has a Divine Source, and is filtered down to the mundane plane in specific words, known as Mantra. As an experiment try the following:

Chant, or repeat over and over again : The sky is blue. (do this for one minute.)
Now chant or repeat over and over again: Jaya Rama Sri Rama Jaya Jaya Rama
Or something more simple: OM OM OM

See how you feel.

Millions of people in India chant Mantra's, and there has got to be something to it if they can chant certain specific words for hours and hours in a kirtan meditation. In the 60's, I remember the Hare Krsna Chanters, out on the streets , chanting for hours. Their motto was "Chant and Be Happy". Even George Harrison was into it.

....................warmly p.dasi

I've been using both Tibetian Buddhist as well as well as Hindu or Vedic Mantras for decades and found them tremendously benficial. I've uploaded one of my favorites, the Medicine Buddha Chant. Hope you enjoy.

Thank you both for your contributions. Although I'm too sure about your concept of ordinary words, there are certainly words that are more ancient, and that can seem to have more power because of diminished use. But I do not find any words to be ordinary, every word has the chance to be extraordinary depending on it's position and context, therefore even the most common and dull of words can inspire. I will even go as far to extend this to words considered vulgar, for even those words can still open eyes.
